Rules established by the Buenos Aires Province Grandparentsī Tournament Federation

 

COMPETITION SYSTEM

                     LOCAL STAGE

                                 Each town or village may use the system they find the most suitable.

                                   REGIONAL STAGE

1.      Two to four players: Only one stage: Number of points (score) after 12 rounds of 12 throws each.

2.      Five or more players: Classification and final rounds.

Classification round: Score after 6 rounds of 12 throws each. Four players classified for next stage.

Final round: Score after 6 rounds of 12 throws each. Score at the clasification round is not added to the Final score

                                   PROVINCIAL STAGE

                                   First and second clssification rounds and final round.

1st classification round: Score after three days of play. 9 rounds of 12 throws each day. 8 players classified for next round.

2nd classification round: Score after 9 rounds of 12 throws each (one day of competition). 4 players classified for next round

Final round: Score after 12 rounds of 12 throws each (one day of competition).

Scores after each round are not added to next rounds scores.

 


SAPO GAME RULES

 

DEFINITION AND AIM:

It is an aim game (eye-hand coordination) consisting in throwing and putting chips into Toadīs Mouth, Old Womanīs Mouth or the Holes in order to get enough points to totally pass over the classifing score.

 

A)      about the field:

The field is a rectangle with the following characteristics:

1-   Sapo game is placed a meter distance from the wall (end line).

2-   Along each side two parallel 2-meter lines are drawn (side lines).

3- , A line is drawn four meters forward to the front of the sapo game (front line).

4-    A parallel line to the front line is drawn 3 meters away from the front of the sapo game (not from the toadīs mouth) (3-meter line or throw line).

5-   A line is drawn just behind the sapo game.

 
 

 


                      

B)    about the players:about the players:

It is played individually, each player uses 12 chips per round and his throw turn in the round is set in a previous raffle.

c)   about the chips:

A set of chips is composed by 12 bronzed chips and must be provided by the umpire.

1- Weight:   30 to 35 grs.

2- Height:   3 cm. of diameter

                      5 mm. of thickness

 

 d)  about the game:

1)      The player is placed for throwing inside the throw zone, a rectangle formed by: the front line , the throw line and the side lines.

2)      Tolerance time for arriving before the game starts, is determined by the number of rounds already played. If a player gets involved in competition lately has no right to play those rounds.  

3)      Before 1st round begins, each player has the right to six trial throws verified by the umpire.

4)      Each player must throw standing before the throw line. If this line is traeded or overpassed with the foot, the throw and its score are annuled, having no right to throw that chip again.

5)      Once thrown it is absolutely forbidden to move the chip, except when:

a)      It jumps into other box in its way down.

b)      The throw is annuled for any reason the umpire may have and he puts the chip into the floor.

  6)  If a player throws 1 or more chips when it is not his turn, the throws are annuled.

       7)  During the counting of the chips thrown, players must not cross the throw line towards the sapo game, unless they are authorized by the umpire.

          8)  If there is only one player playing in a certain stage, he can not complete the rounds altoghether. He must wait 2 minutes between each round, controlled by the umpire.

        9)  Chips that stand on the top of the sapo game or stand on the floor after being thrown can not be removed before the 12-throw round is completed.

       10) Only the umpire and the player throwing can stand inside the throw zone.

       11) Noone can stand behind the sapo game.

       12) In a round, each player makes 12 throws and after all players have finished their throws, the round is considered complete.

       13) Once the classification round is finished all classified participants will start next round with no points.

       14) Each new round, the umpire must count the 12 chips before giving them to the player.

 

e)   about scoring:

1)      Chips that are directly put into the boxes (without entering the holes) are annuled and put on the floor by the umpire, having no score.

2)      If a chip gets in and suddenly gets out by the same place it got in, it is considered null (no score).

3)      If any chip is put into a hole after rebounding in the wall or any external object to the sapo game, the throw is null (no score).

4)      Points are counted for the hole where the chip was put into, although the chip may jump into another holeīs box in its way down. The umpire must replace the chip into the correct box .

5)      If the chip passes over the toadīs mouth and stays beyond it, it is considered "Toad" having the toad score.

6)      If a chip does not totally pass over the toadīs lower lip (standing a half in and a half out), it is not considered "Toad" and has no score.

7)      To count the score, the umpire stands next to the side of the Sapo Game, picking up first the chips that were put into holes and placing them in the border of the box until the score is written. After that, he picks up the no-score chips.

8)      The umpire must announce the score after each throw, and after the round is completed he must give each player his score of the round.

9)      The Control Table will give the parcial and final scores after verifying that neither mistakes nor violations to the rules occured.

10)   If a player bothers another (either intentionally or not) during the throw, the umpire may determine a new throw.If both throws get a score, the umpire must take the highest, writting down the correspondant explanation.

11)    Any demand about a throw must be done by the participant in the moment the throw took place or immediately after it, losing its right to demand after 2 throws. Under no circunstances must a demand from the public be considered. If a person watching the game bothers players or make them feel uncomfortable after 2 warnings comunicated by the umpire or a coordinator, the third time the person must leave the place. 

12)    In case of draw, a new 12-throw round takes place, only between the players with tied scores.

13)    If one or more chips are thrown by accident and the player was already authorized by the umpire to throw, these are considered null and already played.

 

f)   about the umpire:

1)    General coordinators establish the system of play.

2)      The umpire  must be a person with perfect knowlidge of Sapo Rules.

3)      The umpire is responsible for authorizing chips to play, controlling and fixing conditions of the field, as well as giving chips to the players before they start each round of throws.

4)      The umpire will take a game list where to make notes about the points  obtained by each chip  to hit by each player in the corresponding round , and a General list .

5)      Any calculation of scores coming from the public is forbidden.

6)      If someone from the public is clearly interfering the game, disturbing unintencionally the player who is about to throw, the umpire must stop throws until the public keeps silence, having the right, after two warnings, to obligate the disturbant person to leave the place. If the umpire can not manage to control the publicīs discipline or disorder caused by a player, he has the right to interrupt the game provitionally or definitely.         

7)      The umpire is the only one who can stand in the field apart from the player throwing at that moment.

8)      The umpire can talk about the game, scores, questions, reclamations, etc. only to players, without allowing any question or reclamation referring to the game, coming from the public.

9)      In exceptional circumstances when it is difficult or impossible to verify a certain play,umpireīs judgment is considered and his decision is unappealable

10)    Any situation occuring before, during or after the match that has no reference in the rules, is not taken into consideration.

11)    Coordinators table must control every score written in the individual, parcial and general planillas during the match, and any mistake will be communicated before the end of the day.

12)    Every player must sign the game planillas, showing that way their agreement to the Sapo Rules. This condition is an obligation for the players to be authorized to play the match.

13)    If under exceptional circumstances, a record of proceedings needs to be written, it must be signed (in agreemnt or disagreement) by directors, umpires and players. If anyone decides not to sign he automatically loses his right to participate from the tournament.

Anyone may suggest changes to the rules to the coordinators, but no change will be done until the end of the tournament.
